A.     SIMPLE SENTENCE

Pengertian Simple Sentence dan Contohnya Dalam bahasa Inggris dikenal 4 jenis kalimat. Keempat kalimat itu adalah simple sentence, compound sentence, complex sentence, dan compound-complex sentence. Dalam postingan ini, kita hanya akan membahas satu jenis kalimat simple sentence saja. Untuk jenis yang lain bisa dibaca di postingan terkait. Simple sentence mempunyai pengertian kalimat Bahasa Inggris yang hanya mempunyai satu induk kalimat (main clause). Kalimat ini sederhana karena tidak memiliki anak kalimat (sub clause). Contoh Simple Sentence:

Simple sentence adalah sentence type (tipe kalimat) yang paling mendasar, yaitu hanya terdiri dari satu independent clause. Tipe kalimat ini bukan berarti “simple” (sederhana) untuk dipahami karena simple sentence sendiri merujuk pada pola kalimat bukan the complexity of thought (kompleksitas pemikiran).

Simple sentence, also called an independent clause, contains a subject and a verb, and it expresses a complete thought. In the following simple sentences, subjects are in yellow, and verbs are in green. 

v  I work for a bank The manager is leading the meeting.

v  Someone is knocking the door.

v  You should come on time.

v  Our teacher is sick.

v  My father is a doctor.

v  Shinta is going to go the Kuta Beach.

v  My birthday is tomorrow.

   B. COMPOUND SENTENCE

 compound sentence contains two independent clauses joined by a coordinator. The coordinators are as follows: for, and, nor, but, or, yet, so. (Helpful hint: The first letter of each of the coordinators spells FANBOYS.) Except for very short sentences, coordinators are always preceded by a comma. In the following compound sentences, subjects are in yellow, verbs are in green, and the coordinators and the commas that precede them are in red.

Pengertian Compound Sentence dan Contohnya Compound Sentence adalah jenis kalimat dalam Bahasa Inggris yang tersusun dari lebih dari satu kalimat lepas (independent clause). Dalam arti lain, Compound Sentence adalah kalimat yang mempunyai paling sedikit 2 kalimat bebas. Kita mengenalnya dalam Bahasa Indonesia dengan kalimat majemuk setara. Compound Sentence biasanya terbentuk dengan kata penghubung seperti and, or, so. Lebih jelasnya perhatikan contoh berikut ini:

Sebuah compound sentence terdiri dari dua atau lebih independent clause (induk kalimat) dan tidak mempunyai anak kalimat. Kedua independent clause tersebut bisa dipisahkan oleh koma dan sebuah kata penghubung (and, but, or, nor, for, so, yet) atau oleh sebuahsemi colon (tanda titik koma).

Ø  My father always read newspaper and my mother cooks in the morning.

Ø  I work hard this week, so I will take a break.

Ø  His father is a good man, but he is bad.

Ø  My name is Fadli and I'm married.

Ø  My child is still 3 years old, but he is very talkative.

Ø  Occasionally the car goes up the dirt trail, and dust flies everywhere.

Ø  My husband was working, so I went shopping.

Ø  I like chocolate ice cream, but my friend likes strawberry.

Ø  They wanted to go to Italy, because they wanted to see Venice.

Ø  I am on a diet yet I really want a cookie.

Ø  He did not take the money, for it was not the right thing to do.

Ø  The little girl agreed that they should eat more pizza, but her friend disagreed.

Ø  Jenny hid under the bed, while Lenny hid in the cabinet.

Ø  Sam went shopping, so Shelby played tennis.

Ø  I tried to speak Spanish, and my friend tried to speak French.

Ø  Meg brought the food, so Kate set the table.
